Home remedies for Joint Pain

Joint is a common complaint associated with diseases of bones. It is commonly found all over the world and worst affected is the elderly people. Joint pain is a symptom commonly found in diseases such as gout, arthritis, fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis etc. Joint pain may also occur after joint replacement or any surgery. Joint pain restricts body movement.
 
Causes of Joint Pain

Some of the important causes of joint pain are injury to the joint, any surgery of the joint and replacement of joint. Joint pain is a common symptom in diseases associated with inflammation of any part of the joint such as cartilage or ligaments.

Excessive straining of joint also causes pain. Excessive exercise or injury to a ligament or tendon can be responsible for causing pain in the joint.

Mental stress and lack of sleep aggravate joint pains. It is found that individuals suffering from continuous mental stress are more prone to joint pains.

Lack of exercise and sedentary habits also causes stiffness and pain in joints.
 
Signs and symptoms of joint pain
Patient suffering joint pain has difficulty in doing daily activities. There is restricted movement due to joint pains.

Patient feels tired and exhausted. Feeling of weakness is felt in every joint.

Pain may be accompanied with swelling and redness of the affected joint. Joint become stiff on slightest movement.

There is extreme restlessness. Patient does not get proper sleep due to joint pain.
 
Home remedies
  • Hot water bath is an effective way of getting rid of joint pain. Take some hot water in a tub and dip the affected part in the tub for few minutes. It will give immediate relief from swelling and pain.
  • Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties. Make a paste by mixing ginger and cloves along with coconut oil. Apply this paste on the affected joint. It will give relief from pain.
  • Turmeric is another important home remedy that has anti-inflammatory properties. Put half tea spoon of turmeric powder in hot milk and drink it every day. It will help to reduce swelling and inflammation of the joints thereby reducing pain.
  • Apple cider vinegar is also a good remedy for joint pains. Mix apple cider vinegar with honey and take it every day to reduce pain and swelling of joints.
  • Apply vinegar on the affected joint to get relief from pain and swelling.
  • Fruit juices have essential vitamins and minerals that give strength to the bones. Banana has properties that help to reduce joint pains.
  • Milk is a rich source of calcium which is essential for bones. Drinking hot milk everyday strengthens bones and ligaments and reduces joint pains.
  • Application of hot and cold compresses on affected joint also gives relief from pain in joints. It gives maximum benefit when done at night before sleeping.
  • People with joint pains should consume fewer pulses as they are rich in proteins which may aggravate joint pains.
  • Regular exercise also helps in easy movement of joints.
  • Intake of alcohol, tea and coffee should be avoided to reduce swelling and inflammation of the joints.
